Professor Simon Kroll
Simon has been involved with the work of Meningitis Now for many years, initially as Chairman of our Medical Research Panel before becoming our honorary Medical Director in 2009, and a Trustee in 2019.
He is Professor of Paediatrics and Molecular Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London, and honorary Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at St Mary’s Hospital. His research group has focused on understanding the genetic and molecular basis for bacterial virulence, in particular of the meningococcus, while the Children’s Infectious Diseases unit at St Mary’s has specialised in the care of children with meningitis and septicaemia.
He is a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, and has spent a lot of the last year involved in their work on the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines.
