Tribute to Meningitis Now Charity Patron Denis Law from Chief Executive Dr Tom Nutt

20th January 2025

Meningitis Now is saddened to hear that its charity patron and international footballer Denis Law has died at the age of 84. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Denis Law

Denis was a long-standing supporter of Meningitis Now after his son contracted the disease. He previously supported Meningitis UK with whom the Meningitis Trust merged in 2013 to form Meningitis Now.  In particular, he supported charity founder Steve Dayman on his awareness and fundraising walks across the country

Born in Aberdeen, Law began his footballing career with Huddersfield Town before successful spells at Manchester United and Manchester City, and in Italy with Torino. He was capped 55 times for Scotland and his 30 goals make him their joint top scorer of all time.

Meningitis Now Chief Executive Dr Tom Nutt said:

"We wish to express our gratitude to Denis's family for everything he did to support us and help raise awareness of this disease - his enthusiasm and involvement with the charity helped us reach out to far more people than we might otherwise have been able to."
