The Facebook fundraising challenge is on!

9th December 2023

Stride into the new year with our new Facebook fundraising challenge.

We estimate that 8,000 lives are affected by meningitis every year, so we are challenging our supporters to walk 8,000 steps a day in January to show your support and raise vital funds for Meningitis Now.

Facebook fundraising has become a huge trend over the last five years. It’s a brilliant way to raise awareness of our work amongst your friends and family, whether they have direct experience of meningitis or not.

Because you can walk each day when you want to, it’s a simple and effective way to support Meningitis Now in the New Year.

Meningitis can strike anyone, at any time, and so it remains vitally important that we are able to reach as many people as possible with our work – work that is made possible through generous fundraising.

Inspired

We hope that all participants will feel inspired to raise funds that will allow us to support everyone who has experience of meningitis, and to work towards making meningitis a thing of the past.

Challengers will be encouraged and supported via a Facebook event group and will be able to share their progress with friends and family via their Facebook fundraising page.

A free Meningitis Now t-shirt will be sent to every participant, along with a step tracker (any fitness tracker will also work). If you use a wheelchair or mobility scooter you could log the equivalent of 8,000 steps which is roughly 4 miles.

Fundraising

Although it’s called a Facebook fundraiser, you don’t have to have Facebook to take part. Just follow this link to set up an alternative fundraising page that your friends and family can support you via.

If you’re a weekend walker, or only manage to get your steps in three days a week, don’t worry! If you don’t hit your daily 8,000 steps, you can make them up when you can.

Registration is now open with the challenge commencing on the 1st of January. Good luck to all participants!
