Ribbon Appeal

21st October 2024

Every year, we remember those who have lost their lives to meningitis by adorning our Tree of Remembrance with ribbon dedications from our supporters. In dedicating a ribbon to a loved one and making a vital donation in their honour, you can help ensure Meningitis Now can continue to be there for everyone facing life after meningitis.

Ribbon Appeal

The Ribbon Appeal offers bereaved families, and all those who have experienced meningitis, a moment to remember loved ones by including a white ribbon on our Tree of Remembrance at our Gloucester Cathedral Christmas concert.

As part of our Ribbon Appeal this year, Sue, whose son Alex tragically died from meningitis, shared her story.

“In January 2020, my healthy 25-year-old son died from meningitis. Alex lived for electronic music – he was a DJ in Leeds, excited about an upcoming tour of the USA that had been booked.

“It’s really important to me that we can learn from Alex’s illness and death from this horrible, aggressive infection, and prevent others from suffering in the same way. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Meningitis Now towards this aim and any amount you can give today will help enormously.”

You can read more about Alex’s story here.

Thanks to donations in support of appeals like our Ribbon Appeal, we can continue offering essential services to families like Sue’s who are facing bereavement. Whether we’re offering an empathetic ear through our nurse-led Helpline, a visit from a Community Support Officer, or support through our Facebook groups, Meningitis Now is here to support everyone in the UK who has lost a loved one to meningitis.

We never forget the life-long impact on families who’ve lost loved ones and remembering the people lost to this terrible disease continues to be a very important aspect of our work.

Meningitis Now’s Christmas Concert takes place at Gloucester Cathedral on Wednesday 27 November. Tickets are available to buy via our concert webpage or by phoning 01453 768000.
