"If all our efforts save just one person’s life it will be worth it"
We were delighted and moved when top online florist Fay’s Flowers Ltd chose to fundraise for us by donating 50% of the net profits on each sale of a very special bouquet it’s created.
The stunning bouquet has been created in memory of Mia, a massive part of the Fay’s Flowers family, who sadly died from meningitis earlier this year.
Massive loss
Mia’s death was a massive loss to her family and friends’ and the lives of everyone she touched. It prompted the forming of Mia’s Forever Fund to raise awareness of Meningitis B and the importance of vaccination. In just 10 months the Fund has raised an amazing £16,541 towards our ongoing work to fight back against meningitis.
Mia’s Forever Fund describes her as ‘a caring and loving young lady, whose life journey had only just started when she contracted meningitis at Christmas 2022 and died on the 5th of January 2023, her 20th birthday.’
Due to Mia’s selfless act of generosity in being an organ donor, three people received organ transplants following her death.
Keen to support charity
Mia’s grandfather Ian told us: “We are extremely keen to promote and support Meningitis Now. If all our efforts save just one person’s life it will be worth it.
“We will come up with more schemes as we progress to raise money for your charity.”
Laura Williams, our Senior Corporate Fundraiser, added: “We are so honoured to have Ian’s and Fay’s Flowers support with the sales of Mia’s Bouquet, in memory of your beautiful granddaughter. Thank you for supporting Meningitis Now in this special way.”
Mia’s Bouquet costs £35.00. The stunning arrangement contains sunflowers, orange spray carnations, red roses, bronze chrysanthemum sprays and more! A special Christmas edition of the bouquet is also being planned. All bouquets come with a handwritten personalised gift message.
Fays Flowers is a family business. The first seed was sown in 1952 when Eric and Bill Matthews bought their first nursery in Essex. Eric‘s wife Joan, a florist, opened shops which eventually expanded and developed into a wholesale flower and plant business.
In 1978 a treasured granddaughter named Fay was born, and Fay’s Flowers became a reality. The shops were sold, but never forgotten, and now the opportunity has arisen to build Fay’s Flowers again as a direct supplier from the grower to the public.
