Hoburne Holidays make fundraising look easy

15th August 2023

Hoburne Holiday Park, Devon, choose us as charity of the year

Hoburne Holidays make fundraising look easy

The team at Hoburne, Devon Bay, have been fundraising for Meningitis Now as their charity of the year 2023 since January.

We were nominated by one of Hoburne’s department leads who experienced his baby son being diagnosed with meningitis over 20 years ago.

Colleagues were so moved by his story that they are aiming to raise £10,000 to support our work so that no other family has to face the same ordeal.

Party in the Park

As well as a successful Charity Day in May, which raised £694.54 from activities such as an inflatable obstacle course, a tombola, book sale and pottery painting, the team recently hosted a ‘Party in the Park event’ which raised £539.55.

Our Senior Corporate Fundraiser, Laura Williams, joined 500 holiday makers at the park to enjoy a brilliant, fun packed outdoor celebration, with live music, a hog roast, a Pimms stand and games.

Laura ran a meningitis awareness stand and got the opportunity to speak to lots of wonderful people about our work. She says, “I met some colourful characters throughout the day, including an entertainer and his pet dinosaur! The team at Hoburne were amazing. They were very welcoming and worked together to ensure the event ran seamlessly.”

Skydive

On the 15th of September, Hoburne’s Food and Beverages Manager Chris, with friends Dean and Steve, will take to the skies for us in a daring sky dive. Inspired by his team’s dedication to their charity of the year, Chris is determined to raise whatever he can through his hair-raising efforts. He says, “We are proud to be raising money for Hoborne’s selected charity Meningitis Now. Please rest assured, our sky dive is paid for by the three of us so every penny raised will go straight towards helping those in need.”

Sports day

Hoburne’s next event will be a sports day in September, which is set to be another exciting day for the whole community. As if all of this wasn’t enough, Hoburne have also donated the use of one of their caravans for a family with an experience of meningitis to use for a much-needed break.

All of these amazing efforts have led to Hoburne already raising three quarters of their overall fundraising target. We are so grateful for their continued support and can’t wait to see what else they get up to this year!
