Craig G's story

8th May 2019

Vicky, from Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire, lost her 8-week-old son Craig to meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia 30 years ago

Craig G's story

She’s recently taken on a challenge event for us in his memory to fundraise and raise awareness. She tells their story here.

“On the morning of 16 November 1989, Craig was off his feed, and was sleeping a lot. He had pale, blotchy skin and a fretful cry when moved."

“By the afternoon I was really concerned as he still didn’t want a feed."

“I called my local doctor and asked for some advice. My GP called at the house at 4.30pm and from then on it was as if we were living in a nightmare."

Fighting for his life

“Craig was admitted to the local children’s hospital at 6.30pm that night. At first they thought he had a viral infection, but by 11pm Craig was very fretful, disliked being touched and was still not eating. A lumbar puncture was taken and bloods done."

“By 3.30am Craig was fighting for his life in the ICU."

“On the morning of the 17 November 1989, Craig lost his fight for life. He had contracted meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia."

“Craig was just 8 weeks old."

“We grieve the loss of Craig daily, and fundraise to raise awareness and research into this disease.”
