“We want to turn our story into a positive one, raising awareness to save lives.”
Emma told us: “My little girl, Noa-Rose became unwell in December 2022 and we were hit with every parent's worst nightmare.
“Noa-Rose was diagnosed with meningococcal type B meningitis. On top of that she tested positive for whooping cough and flu.
Fight for her life
“Watching her fight for her life was one of the hardest things any parent would have to watch.
“Thankfully she survived, but she didn't make a full recovery and has now been diagnosed with epilepsy as a result of meningitis. She is still young, so we are unsure what other impacts her meningitis will have on her.
“We were struggling to come to terms with her illness, life after meningitis and the disability she has been left with until a friend suggested we reach out to Meningitis Now.
Meningitis Now a lifeline
“Meningitis Now has been a lifeline to our family and stand beside us throughout the journey we now find ourselves on. The impact they have had on our lives and the lives of others is breathtaking. We really would be lost without their support, advice and knowledge of meningitis.
“They have helped turn a difficult time into a bearable time and we are not the only family that will forever be grateful for them. From listening to our concerns and offering reassurance to just being there when we’ve needed a friendly chat.
“Without the team at Meningitis Now our daughter would have died. I say that because without the research they fund and support there wouldn’t be any vaccines to fight this awful illness.”
Give something back
Scott added: “I want to give something back to Meningitis Now to help support their research and enable them to continue the amazing work they do in supporting those affected by meningitis.
“I will attempt a summit of Mont Blanc, Western Europe's tallest mountain in September in celebration of our meningitis survivor, Noa-Rose. I am asking for your help to raise some much-needed funds for this amazing charity, if you can spare anything, even just £1, it will help. Together we can save lives. Thank you for your support.”
But it’s not just about fundraising. Emma added: “We aim to not only raise funds but to raise awareness of meningitis to get people talking about it so they recognise the signs.
More in the pipeline
And between them the family is planning a whole series of events and activities to build on the valuable work they have already done.
Emma told us: “This will be the first of many events we do to raise money for Meningitis Now. I plan to hold a coffee morning in work in October to try and raise some further funds.
“We were also fortunate to have an opportunity, given to us by Meningitis Now, to tell our story and help raise awareness of meningitis when in September last year we supported Nick Tompkins to tell our story as part of the Rugby World Cup coverage. We filmed a piece that featured on S4C and all across social media. From social media alone our joint story had over 80,000 views, which is amazing.
“We want to turn our story into a positive one, raising awareness to save lives.”
Thank you Emma, Scott and family for everything you’re doing and plan to do in the future to support our work and raise awareness.
