Aiden's story

26th March 2016

Gemma’s son Aiden fell ill in 2012 with MenB, but thankfully recovered well, although he has been left with after-effects. Gemma, from Epsom in Surrey, tells their story here

Aiden's story

"My son Aiden was two-and-a-half-years old when he became very tired, violently sick, had a high temperature of 104 and couldn't keep anything down, not even water.

"We took him to Thames doctors, who said it was a ear/urine infection and sent us home. Later that evening he was no better, so we took him to A & E, who admitted him to the children's ward.

"The children's ward carried out tests the next day and found as a last resort it was meningococcal meningitis type B. The doctors acted straight away and were fantastic and gradually Aiden made a full recovery.

"Aiden now has some learning difficulties and is currently in the process of being diagnosed with and dyspraxia. We are one of the lucky families that managed to beat the terrible illness - a lot of families are not that lucky."
