At just 6-months-old Kaytee’s son Ari developed meningitis. Here 22 year old Kaytee, from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, describes what happened, in the hope of helping other young, first time mums become more aware of the signs and symptoms. In particular she highlights the importance of not waiting for a rash.

Sinead’s young son Alex was very sleepy and had a high temperature. The young mum, from Lisnaskea in Co. Fermanagh knew something was badly wrong and her doctor agreed. Alex was rushed straight away to hospital where it was touch and go for a while. Sinead recounts their experience here

Rebecca and Chris's son Oliver was just six-weeks-old when he became very unsettled, stopped taking his milk and developed a very high temperature. The youngster, from Milton Keynes, had contracted bacterial meningitis but, trusting her mother’s instinct, Rebecca made sure she got him the treatment he needed to make a good recovery. Minnie-Rose's story
Maxine’s six-month-old daughter Minnie-Rose cried when she was held and wouldn’t eat or drink. Because she was in physical pain Maxine took her to hospital, where they noticed purple spots on her legs. Thanks to the speed with which she was treated Minnie went on to make a good recovery. He’d contracted meningitis and shortly afterwards was rushed to his hospital, where his mum was told to prepare for the worst.
