Bernadette's story
Bernadette was booked in for an elective c-section and her son Elijah arrived safe and well. But at the same time she became ill with a rare form of meningitis and has little recollection of his birth and the preceding weeks. Despite ongoing tiredness she’s recovered well though and is grateful to be around to watch her children grow. She tells her story here

Gemma’s son Ben, from Milton Keynes, complained of feeling ill and a tummy ache and throughout the night was sick. The next morning he went downhill quickly, but an alert doctor suspected meningitis and started treating him. He was rushed to hospital where he thankfully rallied. Gemma tells their story here

During a trip to the seaside earlier this year 7-year-old Hannah, from Coventry in the West Midlands, complained of earache. Her symptoms deteriorated and her parents Liz and Carl took her to the local hospital. But it took a few more hospital visits before Hannah’s illness was finally diagnosed and she received the treatment she needed. Thankfully, she responded well. They tell their story here

Emma’s young daughter Ellie, from Great Barr in Birmingham, was very sleepy, had a high temperature and was irritable. But when she screamed at the light her mum knew she had to get her to hospital quickly. Fortunately they got there in time and Ellie has made a good recovery. Emma tells their story here
