Bob C’s story
Bob, from Brighton in East Sussex, became ill with meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia at the age of 17 in 1974. He went to bed shaking with what was mistaken for alcohol poisoning but awoke a few hours later with purple spots all over and paralysed legs. He tells his story here.

New teaching resources launched in England in memory of Alex
New teaching resources are being launched today in memory of Alex who sadly died from meningitis at the age of 25. These resources will help to give young people vital lifelong skills to make informed choices about their health, seek urgent care and remain healthy.

Amy and Noah's Story
One-year-old Noah contracted pneumococcal meningitis in 2023. The resulting brain injury impacted his hearing and his ability to walk and talk. Amy, Noah's mum, applied to Meningitis Now’s Rebuilding Futures Fund for some sessions with a highly specialised physio. These sessions have helped Noah regain function in his right arm, and he has now returned to nursery, walking and talking, back to his cheeky self. Amy shares Noah’s story here.

Charlotte V’s story
Charlotte, a 42-year-old SEND primary school teacher and mum of two from Reigate in Surrey, felt unwell with earache, which developed into a very severe headache and fever, becoming light sensitive. She was rushed to A&E, where meningitis was diagnosed. Charlotte is incredibly grateful she was treated so quickly and shares her story here.

Victoria D’s Story
Victoria had previously contracted meningitis as a teenager so when the now 25-year-old became severely unwell with an extreme migraine she recognised the symptoms and went to hospital where she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. While she still has some after-effects she has since found support from our Community Support team who provided an understanding and listening ear.

Supporting those with fatigue after meningitis
In December we hosted an online support event for those who had meningitis in the last 18 months and were also experiencing fatigue after meningitis. It was a relaxed and supportive session which provided people with information and resources to help them to manage fatigue.
