Tamsin B's Story
18-year-old Tamsin from North Yorkshire became ill with headaches, nosebleeds and fatigue during her A-levels. She was diagnosed with viral meningitis and recently reached out to Meningitis Now’s Helpline to get support for the after-effects like fatigue and brain fog she is still experiencing.

Mhairi E's Story
Mhairi from Fife had just moved out of her family home into her new flat when she became seriously unwell with vomiting, fainting and a headache. She was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed and treated for meningococcal septicaemia. She was taken to the ICU where she gradually had regain her strength and relearn skills like walking. Mhairi has now made a full recovery and shares her experience here.

Olivia’s fundraising walk to the hospital that saved her life
At 8-months old Olivia became seriously unwell and was rushed to hospital where she was treated for bacterial meningitis. In honour of the hospital that saved her life Olivia and a team of family and friends walked several miles from her home to The Portland Hospital to raise money for Meningitis Now. Together they raised an amazing £4,000!

Ellis B’s story
Samantha’s baby son Ellis fell ill with blisters in his mouth and lips and a high temperature. He was lethargic, rejected feeds and his skin was mottled and pale. He went to A&E and viral meningitis was diagnosed but now, four months later, he’s getting back to his normal self, as Samantha from Albrighton in the West Midlands tells us here.

Bob C’s story
Bob, from Brighton in East Sussex, became ill with meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia at the age of 17 in 1974. He went to bed shaking with what was mistaken for alcohol poisoning but awoke a few hours later with purple spots all over and paralysed legs. He tells his story here.

New teaching resources launched in England in memory of Alex
New teaching resources are being launched today in memory of Alex who sadly died from meningitis at the age of 25. These resources will help to give young people vital lifelong skills to make informed choices about their health, seek urgent care and remain healthy.

Amy and Noah's Story
One-year-old Noah contracted pneumococcal meningitis in 2023. The resulting brain injury impacted his hearing and his ability to walk and talk. Amy, Noah's mum, applied to Meningitis Now’s Rebuilding Futures Fund for some sessions with a highly specialised physio. These sessions have helped Noah regain function in his right arm, and he has now returned to nursery, walking and talking, back to his cheeky self. Amy shares Noah’s story here.
