Cases of meningitis in the UK

There is no definitive source providing accurate statistics for all cases of meningitis in the UK. Therefore, we use a variety of sources to estimate the number of cases of all types of meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia

Pre-Covid, we estimated that there were around 8,000 cases of meningitis in the UK each year.

Social distancing measures have caused a significant reduction in cases during the past year. However, as social distancing rules relax, the future incidence of the disease is unknown. We will be keeping a close watch on the situation.
