Keep Connected: Hearing loss- learning to live with hearing loss after meningitis.

This online support event is for adults aged 18+ who have hearing loss as a result of meningitis and for parents and carers of children who have hearing loss as a result of meningitis.

Date & Time: Tuesday 10th September – 6pm - 7.30pm

Overview:

Hearing loss is a common after-effect of bacterial meningitis. Difficulties can range from mild hearing loss through to profound deafness in one or both ears. Learning to live with hearing loss can take time and will require learning new strategies and tools for day to day living.

We are delighted to have Rebecca Mansell, Chief Executive of the British Deaf Association, join us for this information session. Rebecca, who at aged 4 had meningitis, will share her personal experience of living with hearing loss after meningitis and will be talking about some of the work the British Deaf Association do to empower deaf people.

This support event will focus on:

  • Information about learning to live with hearing loss as a result of having meningitis.
  • Information on British Sign Language (BSL)
  • What support British Deaf Association can offer
  • Sharing personal experiences, difficult thoughts and feelings with others who understand.
  • A Q&A opportunity with Rebecca, Chief Executive of the British Deaf Association
  • Signposting to support and information

This online event, presented over zoom, will be hosted by Rebecca Mansell from the British Deaf Association and Meningitis Now’s Community Support Officer Ellie Trusty.

Please note there will be 2 British Sign Language Interpreters present during the event, there will also be subtitles available.
